Begin with the ingredient identity and the formula
An ingredient task is easier to resolve when the supplier code, supplied material and formulation revision travel together. A common name or trade name alone may leave the actual composition uncertain. Record what is known and which identity or composition question remains open.
The Commission's CosIng guidance describes an information database rather than an approval decision. The cosmetics legislation page supplies routes to the framework and amendments. A search result and the governing legal entry have different roles in a review.
Match the record before interpreting it
Choose the ingredient-identity task when supplier names, INCI names or identifiers do not line up. Preserve the original names and documents so the reviewer can see the mismatch. Do not silently select a near match or replace the supplier's blend with a single substance record.
Use the CosIng guide when the identity is sufficiently clear to investigate a lookup. Retain the returned identity, source date and legal reference to be checked. An active entry does not finish the formulation review.
Trace contributions into the finished product
Choose fragrance-allergen evidence when the question concerns how supplier composition information relates to the formula and later label review. Keep inclusion rates, units, value types and every relevant material contribution visible. A declaration for the main fragrance does not automatically settle other possible contributions.
For example, a fictional supplier declaration gives a range while the working spreadsheet contains one exact value. The next task is to establish the basis for the calculation. Replacing the range with a convenient number would conceal the uncertainty.
Review restrictions and material changes
Restricted substances, preservatives, nanomaterials and particular ingredient groups need the current provision, actual product use and sufficient formulation information. Keep those questions with the specialist. A recorded ingredient name can identify a review candidate without establishing concentration, exceptions or final suitability.
If a supplier or grade changes, retain the earlier record and identify the changed evidence. The new material's trade name may look familiar while its composition or supporting documentation differs. Ask which calculations, assessment and artwork findings need to be reconsidered.
Keep the market in the question
An EU reference does not establish a GB finding. NI also needs its own scope check. Use the market selector and the guide's stated scope before acting on a result. Where the required task is not yet in the released list, retain the source question and seek the appropriate review rather than treating an unavailable guide as permission.
Finish with the formula revision, exact material or substance, source/evidence reference, unresolved question and owner. The evidence workspace can keep that handover connected to the product while the specialist finding remains a separate record.
