Choose the artwork and market before checking the words
A label review concerns a specific product presentation. Identify the formula revision, packaging components, intended use and destination before reviewing the ingredient list or a single symbol. The bottle, carton and accompanying material may carry different parts of the presentation and need their own controlled copies.
Use HPRA's cosmetic labelling guidance for the Ireland/EU starting point. The GB guidance and NI technical guidance provide separate routes. A market label on a spreadsheet is a scope record, not a finding that the artwork satisfies that market's requirements.
Review the whole label
Choose the market label guide when you need to organise the full artwork review. Bring the actual panels, current product specification and evidence for the proposed statements. Give each panel a revision and retain the copy that the reviewer considered.
For example, a fictional maker has carton revision 4 and an older bottle proof. The next question is whether those components describe the same current product. Reading only the latest carton PDF would leave the bottle question unanswered.
Investigate the ingredient and allergen lines
Choose the ingredient-list task when the proposed line does not clearly connect to the current formulation. Preserve the source material names and ask for the relevant naming and labelling review. A supplier trade name or an alphabetised list is not a completed ingredient-list decision.
Choose the fragrance-allergen label task when the calculation and individual naming questions need to be connected to the artwork. It needs the supplier evidence, formula, intended use and applicable legal entry. Keep the arithmetic check separate from the specialist's wording instruction.
Resolve packaging, warning and traceability questions
Small containers, multi-packs, warnings, use instructions and batch references can raise different questions. Identify the physical presentation and the evidence needed for the particular choice. Do not assume that a solution seen on another product applies to this packaging.
When wording changes, retain the finding, requested correction and new artwork reference. A designer can confirm that an instruction was implemented while the specialist retains the interpretation and scope of that instruction.
Confirm the correction on the final copy
The released guides above show which tasks are available. If a specialised packaging or market guide is absent, keep the question open and follow the relevant authority route. Agree the actual scope with the reviewer before sending artwork to print.
Close the task with the formula, artwork panels, source findings, outstanding questions and correction check. A populated checklist or a filename containing approved cannot replace the evidence and decision behind the finished presentation.
